Gozleme
33 x 44 in
Acrylic paint on raw canvas
This painting is based on a photo of a family friend making gözleme at a cultural festival. Inspired by Terry Furchgott, I used pattern to frame the composition and highlight cultural detail in everyday scenes. My interest in pattern comes from studying Turkish tapestries, which feel symbolic and nostalgic to me. I used acrylic on raw canvas, drawing colors from the original photo. My process often leans toward labor-intensive methods, reflecting my appreciation for traditional women’s craft and the ritual behind it.
She Who Weaves

Acrylic paint
This painting grew out of my interest in kilim weavings and the algorithm prompt. I used traditional Turkish motifs to build a composition that quietly reveals the figure of an older woman weaving. I began with references, but as I worked, I started inventing motifs and arranging them intuitively. The process reminded me of coding; placing visual units to build a larger form. The clean edges, smooth color fills, and bold contrasts ended up giving the piece a digital feel. Weaving today is often digitized or industrial, but it was once an expressive, hands-on tradition carried by women. Through this work, I wanted to honor that legacy and make space for my own interpretation rooted in admiration but filtered through a contemporary lens.
